Three Years of FSB Insurance Service

When we launched FSB Insurance Service as a joint venture between FSB and Markel Capital Holdings in 2018, I don’t think any of us could have predicted how the following three years would go. We have won an industry award, been shortlisted for many more, and have supported FSB members with our advice line, benefits and broking services through our office’s flooding, through a hardening insurance market and through a pandemic!

Nearly 50,000 members have registered and 99% of members would recommend us to another member.

Here’s how the past three years have gone.

2018

We launched in February 2018 with a small team and a smaller panel of insurers than we have now, who helped get this ambitious joint venture off the ground and make it a worthwhile benefit for FSB and FSB members.

 

Not long into our first year of trading the basement of our building flooded and we were forced to enact our (first) business continuity plan! We worked from remote locations and hired laptops to replace desktop computers for just over a month before we returned to our office.

 

During this period our excellent and committed Sales Manager, Katie, was a top 3 finalist in BIBA’s Young Broker of the Year 2018. We were also shortlisted in the British Insurance Awards and the Insurance Times Awards- in our first year of trading!is just proved what we already knew- that we had the talent and ability to provide FSB members with the best possible service, and we weren’t planning on slowing down.

At the end of 2018, we moved from the old building to a new office just down the road to the Interchange building, which FSB Insurance Service has called home ever since.

 

2019

2019 saw our business continue to grow, we introduced some excellent partners to bolster the service we provide to FSB members and our team continued to grow as we hired more staff to meet the demand of our growing registrant base. We hired our first renewals team members and expanded our sales and marketing teams as well.

At the start of 2020, we launched our single-invoice credit insurance benefit, providing members with access to affordable credit insurance and were looking forward to another great year of growth.

2020

We won’t bore you with the details of how hard 2020 has been, or how difficult maintaining a small business is in various stages of lockdown- everyone is well aware of the challenges. Instead, here are some positive highlights from 2020 for FSB Insurance Service.

  • We helped thousands of FSB members access free business continuity planning and other business resilience services through our advice line
  • We were shortlisted for several industry awards and we won “Start Up of the Year” at the UK Broker Awards 2020
  • We joined the Good Employer Charter in Croydon, meeting a series of conditions that showed we conducted business ethically and treated staff and customers fairly
  • We hired four new members of staff and were not forced to let a single team member go
  • Our insurance advice line service was uninterrupted, and we have provided advice and up-to-date information on matters related to the impact of coronavirus and Brexit on business insurance
